  1. A couple more stories

At the end of a full day Divorce Recovery Workshop we sat with the kids on the floor. In answer to the question what the best part of the day was a fifth grader said, “You asked me how I felt. This is the first time since my parents separated that anyone asked me how I felt.”

On a fifth/sixth grade retreat a sixth grader told us, “I wish I would die. I hate not having a home. Every week I have to pack up and move either to my mom’s or my dad’s. I always forget to bring something I want. I hate it.”

    1. Wanda,

Thanks for your additions to these heart wrenching stories. So many of us are not prepared and ill-equipped to help kids deal with the grief of their parents’ divorce. How many times do we simply fail to ask how a child is? How many kids have passed through our ministries desperate for someone to simply ask how they feel only to never have anyone ask and bury those feelings deep inside? How often have we worked with a child at church never even knowing that they live lives of transition between their parents’ homes? These kids need to be heard. These kids need to be helped. These kids need to be loved. Most importantly, these kids need Jesus.

      Thanks again for the comment!

    1. Carey,

The best group I know of is the Divorce Care for Kids groups that Linda mentioned in the article. On their website at http://www.dc4k.org/ you will find a box labeled “Find A Group For Your Kids.” Put your zip code in the box and search, and it will return all the churches in your area that offer the program. best of luck. Please let us know if there is anything else we can ever do to assist you.

    2. Carey, thanks for reaching out. Please go to the DC4K link that Wayne mentioned and find a group for your children. We have DC4K groups all over the country. If you can’t find a church near you, let me know and I’ll do some contacting and see if we can’t encourage a church to get DC4K up and running there.

DC4K is changing kid’s lives one kid at a time, one day at a time. I’ve seen it first hand with many children. It changes them for a life time. Feel free to call me if you need more information. 919-435-1178.
